What is Influenza?
Influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory disease. It can cause mild to severe illness. Unlike a cold, flu symptoms usually come on suddenly. The most common symptom is a fever, which may not happen with a cold. Other symptoms include muscle or body aches, headache and fatigue, sore throat and runny nose.
What is the flu shot?
The flu shot is made up of several deactivated or weakened flu viruses. When you get your flu shot, your body naturally produces antibodies – or "disease fighters" – in response to the vaccine. These disease-fighters will now remain on defense within your body to fight the flu.
Who should get vaccinated?
The CDC recommends that everyone at least 6 months of age get a flu vaccine every year. While everyone is at risk for various types of influenza, it is especially important for certain groups of people to get vaccinated. These people include:

Who should get vaccinated?
Meningitis can affect anyone, but it is most common in infants less than 12 months old and individuals 16-21 years of age.
